If this is correct, then I suspect it may help with longevity. One model of aging (more of an aspect of aging) has it that mutations produce mitochondria which are less efficient; but replicate faster. These then crowd out the more efficient mitochondria, resulting in our cells having less energy. That may explain why excercise in childhood produces muscles which retain more capacity through life than similar excersise when we are adults. I think this likely also applies to some aspects of over-trianing which results in reduced ability, and to quired porphyria (porphyniura) caused by high toxic exposures which trigger MCS in some people. What would be even more interesting, would be the ability to install improved mitochondria. One wonders if that is the key to why whales can live to 260 plus years. -JVV- Hot, cold, or just lukewarm? http://www.mall-net.com/warming.html From bizoregon at yahoo.com Wed Nov 26 23:31:48 2008 From: bizoregon at yahoo.com (Elly Cummens) Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2008 22:31:48 -0800 (PST) Subject: [Mad-Scientists] New find regarding parkinsons may improve longevity References: <20081125015953.78935.qmail@mall-net.com> Message-ID: <167679.13686.qm@web46403.mail.sp1.yahoo.com> Hi! I have a little input on Parkinsons and agree it must be partly due to early aging. But potent nerve toxins like MSG must figure into the equasion?and the chemical does plenty of damage. A loved one who ate loads of ham(cured in MSG)?and liverworst, sausage and hotdogs plus tunafish, and smothered food in Accent, got a terrible progressive case of Parkinsons. He responded positively to maga doses of vitamin E: 1200 IU to 2300? for three years and he got out of his wheel chair to walk again. ?(He had?pronounced sclerotic rings in his eyes,?as well). Thanks for the information!
