Message-ID: <20090907002301.55811.qmail@mall-net.com> I heard part of an audio book written by the Dalai Lama, Tibet's great spiritual leader. I think the name is "Freedom in Exile" The Dalai Lama himself wrote that taking things apart to se how they work is a spiritual thing. As a child raised in the monestary, he would goof off from his spiritual excercises by exploring. There were not many mechanical things there. He found an old watch from the 13th Dalai Lama, took it apart and put it back together like a puzzle. It became almost an obsession for him to take things apart to see how they work. It is a skill which made him a much more thoughtful person, one interested in far more than the ancient texts of Buddhism. He refers to another Buddhist philosopher who said we should not believe something just because it is written, not even because he preached it. We must see if it does indeed work. And so, the Dalai Lama says, because Science requires hypothesizing, testing, refining, and creating a model of how something works, it is more likely to be correct than the ancient Buddhist texts. Where Buddhism and Science disagree, he says, we must look toward Science as being more likely to be right. Message-ID: <20090922170924.39437.qmail@mall-net.com> The Onion reports hundreds of secret labs exposed by global warming polar ice melt. Everything from super secret military bases to lone mad scientists working in a 55 gallon drum, according to photos. http://www.theonion.com/content/news/melting_ice_caps_expose_hundreds Since this is The Onion, you may wish to take it with a few truckoads of salt. Of course, that would speed up the ice melt. Try to avoid salt fro Siberian salt mines, it has too much radiation from new clear tests. --javilk at mall-net.com---------------------------------- Life is to be LIVED regardless of what is out there.
