Could be that either the center of mass of the slinky is accelerating at the required 32 ft/second, OR... Or the more mad scientists among us could argue that this represents an error in the simulation that we are a part of... And the true mad scientist question -- can one construct a spring system where releasing the top of the system causes the center of mass to accelerate sufficiently that the bottom has to rise to keep the total acceleration of mass at the required 32 ft/sec.?
